Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
